Students began Unit 4 with the first round of notes for standard SS8H3, part A.
Attached are the PPT notes and graphic organizer. On Monday, students began constructing flashcards for all their key unit terms. The instructions for completing these cards is attached.
Reminder: Unit test on Wednesday! Study early and study often! On Thursday, students will have an opportunity to review their recent notes on the royal governors of Georgia by creating fake Facebook profiles for each of the royal governors. Attached are the templates for each of the three governors. This will be completed and handed in on Monday, September 30th.
Reminder: The unit test for SS8H2 will be on Wednesday October 2nd. Study early and study often! On Monday, students were given excerpts of the U.S. Constitution as a preview of Tuesday's Constitution Day presentation Students were to complete a 6 C's of document analysis on the Constitution. Mr. Jackson gave out some notes on the Constitution highlighting some key points including:
- There are 7 Articles and 27 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution - The first 10 Amendments are known as the Bill of Rights - The Constitution was ratified (approved) in 1791 - It is the supreme law of the land in the U.S. Students can expect a short 5 question quiz on Friday, September 27th on the Constitution notes. Students completed the "Almost There" quiz on Thursday.
Remember boy's and girls: Don't count on word banks always being available for quizzes. Study early and study often to ace any test! On Friday, students will analyse the War of Jenkin's Ear using their 6 C's of Document Analysis. Note: If the Social Studies benchmark needs to be made up due to absence, you need to see Mr. Jackson during his tutoring time. Have a great Fall Break!! We began a crossword review (front and back) of the parts already covered in Unit 3. Students were informed of a short quiz on these parts for Thursday. "Almost There" quiz on SS8H2a --> Thursday, September 12th. Study early and study often! Each Georgia Studies class will complete and paper and pencil copy of the Benchmark test for Q1. We will follow standardized testing procedures for this test. After testing is complete and there is sufficient time, students will be allowed class time to complete the document analysis they began on Friday. Have a great week!
Students were given a few extra minutes in class on Friday to complete the worksheets on the Yamacraw/James Oglethorpe and the promises made by the colonists in the Charter of 1732. Next, students analysed the Charter of 1732 document using a new 6 C's of Document Analysis sheet.
Note: This will be a frequently used doc analysis sheet throughout this course. Know it, love it, make it your friend! Attached are the document and analysis sheet. Today, students received some guided practice in understanding the responsibilities of the trustees and the colonists involved in the Charter of 1732. Students will be expected to finish this assignment early on in class tomorrow. We will then begin analysis of the Charter of 1732 using document analysis sheets.
